WHY URBAN INDOOR FARMING - WHY MICROGREENS?

Some of the many advantages of indoor agriculture include:

1. Climate control: Indoor agriculture allows for precise control over temperature, humidity, and light levels, which can optimize plant growth and increase crop yields.

2. Pest and disease control: Indoor farming can limit the spread of pests and diseases, reducing the need for pesticides and other chemicals.

3. Water conservation: Indoor farms can use hydroponic or aeroponic systems, which use less water than traditional outdoor farming methods.

4. Year-round production: Indoor agriculture allows for crop production regardless of the weather or season, increasing the availability of fresh produce.

5. Reduced land use: Indoor agriculture can be done in a smaller space, reducing the need for large amounts of land, which can be important in urban areas or areas where arable land is scarce.

Micro farming is expanding within the urban and suburban "home grower" sector which focuses on small units strategically located near the consumer’s they serve.

Home based and other small footprint operations are thriving while being supported by media, localized demand, qualified leadership plus products and produce in the marketplace.

WHAT ARE MICROGREENS?

Microgreens are the young seedlings of various vegetable and herb plants that are typically harvested when they are just a few inches tall. They are often used as a garnish or as a source of flavor and color in salads and sandwiches.

Microgreens are generally considered to be very nutritious, as they are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other beneficial compounds. The exact nutritional content of microgreens can vary depending on the specific variety, but some common nutritional highlights include:

* High levels of vitamin C, vitamin K, and vitamin A

* Rich in antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin

* Good source of minerals, such as iron, calcium, and potassium

* High in chlorophyll, which is known for its anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties

Our mission is two fold:

  1. To bring small footprint growers and their produce to the attention of local folks who want fresh locally grown produce

  2. To create a central meeting place for growers to share their ideas and skills
